Jesse James Territory

Come to Northfield to learn more about a Midwest pioneer settlement whose citizens stopped the infamous Jesse James from robbing the town's bank in 1876. Relive that fateful day when the gang rode into Northfield to rob The First National Bank with a visit to the Northfield Historical Society Museum where you will see the actual vault door that Joseph Lee Heywood refused to open and died protecting.

Be sure to stroll the streets that rang out with gun shots when townspeople thwarted the attempted robbery upon hearing the shout, "Get your guns boys! They're robbing the bank!" The horses and buggies may be gone, but Northfield's downtown streets are still alive with unique stores and shops that offer treasures available only in Northfield.
